P&P: Exercise 17: The user’s viewpoint

For this exercise we are to consider the use’s point of view for a space designed for a particular activity, considering height, orientation and focal length.  I have chosen to stay with the library theme established in with the previous exercise.  The first image looks at the entrance and front desk from two perspectives, the patron and employee, with the same space shot from opposite sides.

From the patron’s side, the space was shot at a height a bit lower than my 191cm, perhaps 150cm, at 28mm equivalent, the widest angle possible on my RX100.  The reverse side was shot from the counter top behind the semicircular desk at the same focal length.  The second space is a study desk on the first floor shot from head height looking down and out from the desk at same focal length of 28mm.  I tried shooting the desk closer, but lost a lot of interesting detail, especially the shadows cast by the window designs.

Exercise 16 photo is also shot from a user's point of view.

The biggest challenge with two of these was balancing interior and exterior light, shooting slightly underexposed to get better exposure on the light outside, knowing I could compensate by removing shadows in LR.
